Pokanoket Community Garden Volunteers

Dream Weavers Inc's mission is to drive self sustainability among indigenous communities, especially in the area of indigenous food ways. We are pleased to volunteer at Osamequin Farm to assist the Pokanoket Tribe in maintaining. growing, cultivating and harvesting food for those most vulnerable.

2023 Pokanoket Garden at Osamequin Farm

This was a difficult year filled with challenges and needs of new fencing, more volunteers, deer and pests eating the harvest. We learned a lot from these challenges and gleaned from our mistakes. We tried some traditional indigenous corn, bean and squash mounds sowing.  The Ground was stony and difficult to work with.  Every week we battled the weeds.  However, we were able to make the most of our learnings and apply them to next year.

2024 Pokanoket Garden at Osamequin Farm

This year we started an herb garden to continue with indigenous traditional ways.  We even decided to leave an area for natural herbs that grew naturally. We were grateful for the volunteers, who helped cultivate the herbs, corn, squash, tomatillos, cherry tomatoes, and watermelon that grew well this year. We installed a shed, some grow boxesand acquired more tools to make the work easier.
